I received a note recently about Knowledge Ecology.
Given the closer links between Organizational Learning and Knowledge
Management, I think you will be interested in it.
But more importantly, I am very interested to hear what people on this
list think about this linkage...

ANNOUNCING THE FIRST-EVER CERTIFICATION IN KNOWLEDGE ECOLOGY
(http://www.knowing.org/ke.html)
Today, there is a growing need for a deeper, more pragmatic understanding
of social, behavioral and cultural aspects of knowledge development in
organizations. Knowledge Ecology, an interdisciplinary art and science,
is providing a framework that will respond to this need. Knowledge Ecology
focuses on developing, sharing, and applying knowledge as a human and
organizational capability that can be cultivated, rather than a thing that
can be "managed".
FIRST TIME EVER.
For the first time, a major accredited University in the U.S., in
partnership with leading practitioners of Knowledge Management, is
offering a certificate program in Knowledge Ecology. George Mason
University's Program on Social & Organizational Learning, in collaboration
with Community Intelligence Lab, MG Taylor Corporation and Knowing Journal
will be launching the Knowledge Ecology Certification in September of this
year. This program promises to embody "the natural way of creating and
navigating knowledge".
INTEGRATION IN CREATIVE AND EXPERIENTIAL WAYS:
The KE Certification will also offer an innovative virtual learning
architecture; balancing collaborative and individual learning, and virtual
and face-to-face contact. Most of the program is delivered online through
various distance-learning methods. In addition, collaborative learning
approaches and three face-to-face workshops will strengthen the discovery
and integration of course materials in creative and experiential ways.
The KE certification program will engage participants in leading
conceptual understandings of Knowledge Management issues. Participants
will also, through MG Taylor's Discovery workshop, create together what it
means to be in a knowledge ecology, to nurture communities of practice,
and to create an entrepreneurial organization. Putting KE principles and
practices into action will also provide a great networking opportunity for
participants as part of an ongoing and expanding learning community.
COLLABORATION WITH LEADING THINKERS:
Participants of this program will work with leading thinkers and
practitioners of the field, including Etienne Wenger, George Pór, Debra
Amidon, Jeff Conklin, and Mike McMaster, in developing practical skills
and tools in dealing with strategic, tactical and operational domains of
Knowledge Ecology.
Knowledge professionals, of any specialty, will also develop capacities
to:
* Create learning communities within their own organization
* Consult effectively (internally or externally) in various
knowledge-related fields: Knowledge Management, Organizational Learning,
Organizational Transformation, Innovation and Creativity
* Advise and coach senior managers
* Develop their own methodologies
* Create training and workshop materials
* Continue on a research and development track in this emergent field
SOME PROGRAM MODULES: Communities of Practice, Knowledge Gardening,
Innovation Strategy, Online Facilitation, Collaborative Technology, Ethics
for New Professionals, and Entrepreneurial Organization
Students, upon successful completion of the program, will be awarded a
Certificate in Knowledge Ecology from George Mason University. The
certification can be counted towards Continuing Education Units. This
program, however, is not a degree program.
