Hello friends.

I must say, I am new to this site and I don't exactly know how it works,
but anyway, i shall say a little about myself and then ask the questions
on my mind...and hope to receive some responses.

My name is Jagriti Bhatia and I am a student at Monash University in
Melbourne, Australia. I am currently doing my honours thesis on Learning
Organisations. To be more precise, "How organisations assess their
learning processes and outcomes".

After much reading, many theorists have emphasized the importance of
assessing "learning". And as it is such an elusive concept, the
assessment of it becomes even more difficult.

I can see that many organisations are not even in the process of building
their organisation as a "learning" organisation, let alone assessing
learning activities.

So I would like to ask for any input on this issue.

Firstly, Is assessment really important?
Secondly HOW CAN ORGANISATIONS EFFECTIVELY ASSESS
CHANGES IN KNOWLEDGE AND ACTION- AND "LEARNING"?
Thirdly- Is It Even remotely POSSIBLE TO ASSESS SUCH A
COMPLEX PHENOMENON?

After conducting several interviews with different organisations, I am
finding that most don't see this issue as important....which is quite
distressing for me as a student basing their entire year studying this
topic.

So I invite ANY RESPONSES!!! It may be that I am interviewing the wrong
organisations. It may also be that Australia is not as mature in this
area as other parts of the world.

Hope to hear some responses soon.

Thankyou.
JAG!
