Several years ago I posted a note on LO which also enquired about the
research base for the 7S model.

I got zero response. However, I received a considerable number of
personal replies which amounted to "tell me if you find out something".
And they still come. About twice a year I get an email from someone
asking me for the result of my research, presumable from tracking down my
original posting via a search engine.

The nearest I got to the whole mystery of the 7S origin was an apocryphal
story about people at McKinsey trying to keep Tom Peters under control
during a one-week workshop. So they got him to focus on one topic per
day. Day one; strategy, Day two; staff, Day three; structure .... and
so 7S model was born. If only life were that simple.

Cheers and good hunting.

Bob
