Replying to LO28740 --
Dennis, Your post was a comfort to me. I'm really glad to see companies
actually being proactive in managing risk. The other day I saw a book by
Barry Jones, a prominent Australian politician, on 'workplaces in the
furture'. Like many other books on management, when you look up 'risk' in
the index, it doesn't get a mention. Makes me ask the question - what
does this snoozer really know about managing a business? The not-so-funny
aspect is that this guy was the ALP's advisor on science and small
business. What would he know about achieving a productivity gain, in any
business situation?
Australia is run by a bunch of schoolboy politicians, the result has been
almost decimation of the technology base built up during the second world
war. Our politicians are usually farmers, solicitors, estate agents,
teachers and one or two doctors etc. We haven't had a scientist or
engineer in govt for about fifty years. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
Best Regards,
Alan Cotterell
