I think the point of such a discussion, Scott, is that there may be more
than one "big picture" and "true meaning" at work here.

Not all philosophers on the subject of the mind believe in a subconscious,
for example.

I also happen to think that there is more wrong then just maps being "out
of sync" with reality. I happen to think that when we mistake them for
reality, a whole bunch of other important problems happen.
