Replying to LO13144 --

As an exercise in thinking about the nature of alternatives, I often ask
training participants to think about and comment on the following
thoughts:

What is the opposite of big?
What is the opposite of hot?
What is the opposite of good?

In almost every case the initial answers are small, cold, and bad.
However, alternative answers might include not big, not hot, and not good.
The elusive nature of language and the conditioned habits of speech
contribute to much misunderstanding.
