I recall reading a study once (possible on Paul Strassman's site) about
the productivity impact of technology in companies. The punch line is
that companies that had their act together, understood their business, and
worked well, were able to use technology very, very well. Companies that
didn't work well had no impact (or perhaps negative impact) from the
introduction of technology. Perhaps the conclusion is that technology
seems to amplify whatever's there, rather than fix what's broken.
