Apropros the spelling/malapropism issue: I was at the drive-up window of
my bank a year or so ago and noticed the (printed) sign they had posted,
apparently in all seriousness:
"Please bare with us while our computers are down."
I didn't say a thing. :-)

the one that immediately comes to mind is the sign in the Bangkok dry
cleaning shop, "Drop trousers here for best results!" And, the language
miscues work in the other direction as well; my brother, trying to use his
very best Spanish in Latin America, unintentionally said things that they
