Hi
Here is our Outline Programme for our Poolside Cafe at the Edinburgh
Festival Fringe, from 12th to 29th August. As you can see it's very
exciting - I do hope you will come along in person if you can. Please
forward the programme to everyone you know who would be interested, and
also to any listserves whose members have similar interests.
If you can't make it in person, do join us in our Chat Room which will be
operational towards the end of July, accessible via our website. We'd
really love to hear from you!
In fact, why don't you just take a few days off, head for Edinburgh, make
the cafe your base at the Festival, meet some nice people, recharge your
batteries, bring your friends .....
Irresistable!
Look forward to hearing from you one way or the other.
Yours Isabel

OUTLINE PROGRAMME
Week One, Communities at the Millennium
We are delighted to host lectures and seminars with controversial,
internationally known futurist Robert Theobald, author of Reworking Success.
Copies of Reworking Success are available from BrainPool, price #10.00 to
include postage and handling.
Tuesday 12th August, 12pm to 2pm
Robert Theobald
Lecture: Reworking Success
What we currently call "Success" will lead to catastrophe if we continue as
we are into the 21st century. The costs of maximum economic growth and a
commitment to international competitiveness now exceed the benefits. We
need to develop new goals which can be summarised as
ecological integrity,
effective decision-making
and social cohesion based on social justice.
Robert Theobald will talk about how dealing with fundamental change will
enable you to meet people making a difference and have more fun!
Tuesday 12th August 2pm to 4pm
Peter Merry
Image Theatre on Work
This session will explore our thoughts and feelings about the current
structures of work and employment, and how they affect our lives. It will
also enable us to reflect on what kind of alternatives we would like to see
and how we could go about creating them. This will happen
through the use of Image Theatre, an interactive visual technique involving
the creation and "dynamisation" of human group sculptures.
Tues 12th August, 5pm to 7pm
Robert Theobald lecture
Reworking Success - as above
Wed 13th August, 10am to 4pm
Robert Theobald.
Seminar: The Future of Work.
Robert Theobald will argue that we are all so busy doing our jobs that we
have no time to do any work. He will then explain why he argues for "full
unemployment," explaining that the type of work which will challenge us in
the 21st Century will not be structured into jobs as we have known them.
Tickets
BrainPool members, #30.00 (thirty pounds sterling) plus VAT = #35.25
Non members, #60.00 (sixty pounds sterling) plus VAT = #70.50
Wed 13th August, 5pm to 7pm
Peter Fryer, Chief Executive of Humberside TEC, one of the most successful
and innovative public sector bodies in the UK.
Think the Unthinkable.
Why do we insist on running our organisations in a way which is totally at
odds with the way we run the rest of our lives? Tony Blair has asked his
Ministers to think the unthinkable. Are you prepared to do the same for your
business?
On Thurs 14th 10am to 4pm
Robert Theobald
Seminar: Communities at the Millennium
Communities are the best hope for the fundamental changes which are
essential for the near future: Theobald will enable a discussion which will
help people to see how local currencies, links between consumers and
farmers, community gardens, traffic calming and an incredible array of other
models can maintain and restore the quality of life.
