My name is Sam Hobbs and I have been lurking for a while and now find the
time to get into this list.
I am responding direct since the list will be down for the next 10 days.
[Host's Note: Well... We're up today, probably down tomorrow when I travel
to Harare. ...Rick from Capetown]
When it comes to MBTI and team building I and most of my clients have to
deal with the ethical issues of disclosure. Inherent in the high
validation and reliability of the MBTI is the confidentiality of any
psychological assessment instrument.
Three clients have resolved to use the MBTI in the following ways for team
building.
1. (Cover their posterior approach) Bring in psychologists certified in
the MBTI and team building, require signed consent forms from all
participants allowing the disclosure of the information, a portion of the
program focuses on the propriety of the information's use.
2. The largest of the companies use the Keirsey Temperament Sorter. They
feel it is based on the some basics but does not have the disclosure
liability mandated by the MBTI. They at no time identify people as any
one combination. They work in groups changing combinations and only
identifying two of the four style at a time.
i.e.. Everyone with N and F get together. This is done in several
combinations with exercises to bring out and create value in the different
approaches.
They have been talking about replacing the MBTI with a non psychological
tool.
3. This is a former client due the their "I don't care) approach. They
use the Keirsey Temperament Sorter to collect data (cheap) and present it
as MBTI without qualifications. Everyone is told everybody's styles and
how they need to interact.
I would love to be able to give you details of implementation, There are
several training certification programs that offer team building. This
approach is the only one I would consider from a point of ethical
disclosure.
Good luck.
