S. Mosley asked:

>What types of knowledge should someone have if they want to
>specialize in performance improvement moving away just from training?

Are you asking to become a trainer or as a company that wants to improve
performance. I have answered as if you want to become a trainer.or
actually improve process performance

The best companies in the world have in common
	1.process discipline
	2. process control and
	3. tight vender relationships

So if you want to improve performance it is necessary to know and understand
How to talk about and study work
		Taylor tools
			 Understanding work
			 Work study tools
 				Work Sampling
				Flow Process
 				Work Simplification
					What is excess cost
& Learning to see excess cost

If you don't know what excess cost is or how to see it then you
can't improve.
How to measure and control processes
		Kaizen tools
			 Rationale for study of variation
 			Statistical Process Control Tools
 			SPC Variable and Attribute charts
 			Pareto Scatter Diagram	Fishbone

People are at the center of the processes so one should know how
to meet involve and lead.
		Meeting skills
		Problem solving process
		Leadership Process
		Empowering with negotiation
The connection between peoples attitude and measurements

If you need help understanding the list please ask.
