Hallo Bill,

I hope I didn't surprise you because you start to believe that I am one of
those "who avoid taking leadership because they don't want the
responsibility of transformation."

> Is there a leader who does not want to be transformational? Is there a
> leader who is not transformational, whether they want to or not?

I am sure that many people want to be or become leaders because of
career-reasons as money or social prestige and not because of the
transformations they do or will perform. And if they focus on
transformations the direction is usually to strengthen their power to push
their very personal interests through. "Stewards" are a very rare species.

I agree that every leading is transformational but my point was that there
is no need for dialog or working in teams and all the other values which
make this list such a pleasant place to be in - unless the direction is
that of what we try to understand as a learning organisation.

So confronted with the worlds badness or dark side I can understand those
who refuse to take the responsibility for transformations. Although it is
sad, I think they are more honest to themselves compared to those who rush
from one change to the next, ignoring the first of Scott Simmerman's
quotes of his philosophy "Don't Just DO Something, Stand There!". Those
who "just do something" frighten me. I fact, I would not trust a leader
who never had doubts about his leadership, the corresponding
responsibility and the ethical aspect of his role. As a large scale
example: Jesus would not have been what he was without the scene in the
Garden Gethsemane.

>>Is there anybody in the list who really wants to be a transformational
>>leader? And if so, why?

The questions behind are: What about your doubts, how did you overcome
them?

Thank you for asking

Winfried
