thanks for your complete posting, Ray. I too have resisted adding to the
clamor, because of my own feelings about the way beliefs are tossed about
and stereotypes drawn.
One of the things you mentioned, though, allowed me to realize the one
thing that most bothered me. That is whenever postings stray from clearly
differentiating individual feelings, thoughts and beliefs from those that
are projected onto a group.
I can only speak clearly and with authority for what I believe--not the
entire world of whatever 'Ism' or 'Dom' that I may subscribe too. When
people choose to speak on behalf of others, it causes me to be
uncomfortable with the certainty that they project about what other people
think or believe. I continue to wrestle with my own beliefs and feelings
about spirituality--and I'm quite skeptical about anyone else having the
authority to speak on my behalf.
You, and several others, wrote from a very personal perspective. I
respect that. I'd hope that everyone would consider doing the same.
