Breaking Into this Field LO15165

[Host's Note: I've long had the sense that it is very difficult for new
people, young or otherwise, to break into this field. That first step on
the ladder is pretty high, most of the key learning is one the job, it's a
chicken and egg situation. With this thread, I invite comments about
getting started in the field.

I have been lurking here for quite sometime. The topics are always of
great interest, and informative. Unfortunately I usually don't have the
time to read all messages, let-alone to respond.

Now I write to you to seek help, ideas or referrals.

I am looking for an entry position in a firm that is interested in TQM,
Learning org. and Systems perspectives for the betterment of the employees
and company alike. My problem is, that I am not formally trained in this
field. I have been working in the medical services field, have owned my
own business, and have a BA in Psych and Poli. Sci.

I am however, very interested in Learning org., Whole Systems approaches
to business and have read a number of books on the subject (for leisure
reading), including: Capra, Wheatley, Senge, and others. I know this does
NOT make me expert on the subject, but it shows that I am deeply
interested, more than as a "passing fancy". In 1989, I gave a
presentation on present world changes and future events. I had never read
about systems or learning org., yet the presentation sounds much like
Capra (in a modest sort-of-way :-) ) and I had not heard of him at this
time. ( I will be glad to send you a copy if you request it.) I tell you
this to explain my deep interest in the subject.

I have an aptitude for this type of work as evidenced by my Myers Briggs
(INTJ) and other tests. I want to dedicate myself to this type of work
because of its spiritual, intellectual and challenging nature. But... I'm
having a heck-of-a-time finding a position in this field, even an entry
position.

I'm willing to relocate. In fact I'd like to go to the UK. But anywhere
else (reasonable climate) will do.

Does anyone have suggestions? Referrals? Any ideas at all? I will be
more than happy to send you a copy of my resume if it will be helpful.
