I think perhaps what this is getting at is Fred Kofman's and John Weeks'
notion of ontological inversion in their "Making Sense": the notion that
we sometimes name something and then give more import to the name we've
created than the thing itself. Often this is useful; sometimes it is
_very_ limiting.
