Hi Simon,
Whenever I read your messages I feel very ambivalent. I agree with much of
what you suggest, especially about the need for people to take greater
responsibility for themselves, that teams need to create around a common
purpose for them rather than by imposition.
Then I get to the bit about "I can take my self and everything else
offshore" [in some way or other] and I begin to feel much less
comfortable.
I return to a comment that I made much earlier in this thread. Some are
more able [for reasons of ability, style, desire whatever] to do as you
suggest. Others are not and I feel some responsibility towards the greater
whole.
Secondly, whilst much of what is "organised" is not organised effectively
I would seek to improve its organisation rather than abandon it for
something completely different. As an example. I do not see why people who
do not want to pay tax [that's OK] should have any access to things that
are paid for out of taxes. You cannot have one without the other.
I believe that much of the organised worlds exists as you want it already.
I have had choices since I can remember. THere are always consequences to
my choices. As a soldier , for some years, I had fewer choices about what
I did than in later years as a manager in industry. However I had made the
choice. I also note that within both systems I very considerable freedom
of operation and always freedom to do as well as I could.
I suspect that many of us contributing to this thread as closer together
than we might realise. THat we are trying to persuade others to agree with
our point of view [despite your protestations that what I feel you are
trying to do, maybe not intentionally and your language forces an
agree/disagree stance rather than how can we build together which may
enable more of us to move down the road together.]
Perhaps we could consider that best of all ideas an see where that takes
us
Best wishes
Ian
