Responding to "Team Building LO15514
While Donne did indeed pen "No man is an island," did not Paul Simon
actually write the opposite? My remaining brain cells relate Donne's
phrase to Simon's song "I am a Rock" from the first S&G album
("Sounds of Silence"), the follow-on phrase of which is "I AM an
island."
The whole song is, of course, ironic--he's not a rock, he's not an
island--he just feels that way because of some particular bout of
teenage angst.
I suspect that not all listeners fully appreciated the irony. I
remember an old flame, for whom this was her favorite song. But
then that's another memory, another story, another thread.....
