I would like to expand this issue a little.
I live in a country in which voting is compulsory, turnout is 80-90%, the
compulsion is generally supported and people take it very seriously.
And even then politicians are generally reviled (with a few exceptions).
It fascinates me that nearly every established democracy in the world has
little respect for its politicians (excepting perhaps Britain for the time
being). It is not a national problem - it is a global problem
I seems to me that we have taken democracy for granted, yet have little
real understanding of it and how to make it work better.
Are there any political scientists or sociologists with any suggestions?
Yours
