Replying to LO15705 --

One of the things I learned from John Constantine and others on this list
is that much -- perhaps all according to some -- of what is communicated
depends on the listener. The matter of "resource" is a case in point.
Some on the lis t "hear" things they don't like, while others, equally
intelligent and sensitive, "hear" something else, and as a consequence we
disagree on whether it is a good thing or a bad.

I begin to wonder if the central issue of communications is not one of
enriching everyone's understanding of the depth of meaning in all words.
Only through such enrichment can we all begin to hear the same meaning in
the same words.

"Resource" is a fair example of this. My little dictionary says a
resource is 1) a source of support or help, 2) the ability to deal with a
situation effectively, 3) a means or an asset, or 4) a natural source of
wealth.

Everyone's definition is in here, but most respondents have focussed on --
or perhaps only heard -- on or two of the definitions.
