Resources...expendible or retained?...depreciated or appreciating?
Organizations...structure, culture, collective intellect, brands?

Multiple meanings apply. Seems that truth lies in appreciating a broad
perspective on the human asset. Resource?...YES. The reservior of
skills, the delivery of human interaction through service, points of
contact for inter-business relations are all human in nature and can be
disposed of or depreciated.

The asset can also appreciate (singly through skill or knowledge
enhancement, collectively through enhanced interconnectivity, e.g., a
shared language or norms). The most compelling fundamental evidence is
implied in the study of learning, team effectiveness and business
performance...all acknowledges the impact of synergy in the human
domain...that is, "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts".

The human asset also defines the organization, creating equities that
shape a brand (e.g., culture's influence on consistency of service
delivery). See Southwest Airlines and PeopleSoft as examples.
