Everyone, and I mean everyone, uses metaphors in conversation all the
time. But rarely do we stop to consider that we use them or what these
metaphors reveal about our individual and collective world views. Imagine
if people in organizations started paying attention to their own and
others' metaphors and stories? What would they stand to gain? Would they
stand a greater chance of fostering multiple vision, adaptability and
learning within their organizations? Would they be able to "break out of
the box," the king of cliches in OD. It's possible. I just completed a
brief essay on this subject called "The Warrior and the Farmer": just drop
me a line and I'd be happy to e-mail you a copy.
