As a sidebar to the discussion of ranking, may I request some help?
Our Chief Executive has required that a merit pay scheme be introduced
(i.e. that individuals deemed 'above satisfactory' will be awarded an
increase of salary above the job rate). Staff members will undergo a
performance review and be rated according to criteria established within
their sections, using broad guidelines that apply to all. It is an
approach I am not necessarily in agreement with but I have no choice but
to implement the procedures.
However several sections in the Institute are resisting the notion that
individuals should be rewarded for the work they do as part of a team - we
believe that all team members (if they are functioning as teams should)
support each other and should share any reward they have merited.
I would be most grateful if any of you would share information on team
remuneration schemes that have worked for you. Please reply to me
privately if you wish and I am willing to summarise replies for the list
if there is general interest in the topic.
