I've just met with a large corporation that threw candy bars to some
employees for answering what to the employees were dumb questions, after
they were just told their wages would be cut.
This is NOT a black/white issue as much as it is (or seems to be) one of
the infamous "paradigm shift", or lack thereof. This, as much as beauty
seems to be in the eyes of the beholder, but I DO know that you can have
excellence without phony rewards like candy. It does not mean, however,
that one has decided in favor of mediocrity, unless punishment is the
basis for the paradigm. Look for other alternatives to butchering the
cattle and you'll probably find some. But of course, if you don't, you
won't.
