March 25th Meeting of the Creativity Consortium, Toronto

Topic: Organizational reward and compensation systems that foster
creativity & innovation. A research update from MacMaster University,
Parbudyal Singh ( Ph.D. candidate) and Prof. Naresh C. Agarwal ( Ph.D.).
Presented by Parabudyal Singh

This month's Creativity Consortium talk will focus on the theory and
research evidence exploring the various "new" reward and compensation
policies and practices that organizations adopt in a conscious effort to
foster creativity and innovation. Our presenter will first examine the
deficiencies of traditional reward systems in the contemporary business
environment and emphasize the need for change. Some of the new reward
systems that will be examined include: incentive pay, profit-sharing,
gain-sharing, recognition programs, ESOP's and skill-, competency-, and
knowledge-based plans.

Theoretical explanations as to why these reward systems are working will
be offered. Finally, a step-by-step strategic reward system, that many
successful firms are adopting, will be presented.

The hands-on workshop will align our generic reward structure elements,
with the corresponding elements of our generic model of the knowledge
worker, which was developed last month at the February meeting of the
Creativity Consortium.
