"The Impact of Technology on the Learning Environment," a two-day symposium
scheduled March 30-31 at Virginia Tech, will focus on the way information
technology will change learning in higher education, K-12 education,
corporate training, and other learning communities.
The keynote speaker for the event will be Don Tapscott, chairman of the
Alliance for Converging Technologies and author of GROWING UP DIGITAL: THE
RISE OF THE NET GENERATION and THE DIGITAL ECONOMY: PROMISE AND PERIL IN
THE AGE OF NETWORKED INTELLIGENCE.
Other featured speakers will include Charles "Chic" Thompson, president of
the Creative Management Group in Charlottesville and author of the
best-seller WHAT A GREAT IDEA!; Eli M. Noam, director of the Columbia
Institute for Tele-Information and author of over a dozen books on domestic
and
international telecommunications, television, information, and regulation
subjects; Margaret A. "Peg" Miller, president of the American Association
for Higher Education; and John D. Bransford, co-director of the Learning
Technology Center at Vanderbilt University and an internationally known
scholar of cognition and technology. A special presentation will be given
by Susan Saltrick, vice president and director of new media for Addison
Wesley Longman, New York.
In addition to the featured speakers, the symposium will include a series
of concurrent sessions, with presenters from throughout the country, and
tours to such Virginia Tech technology centers as the CAVE, which is a
virtual reality center; the Math Emporium; and the MultiMedia Laboratory.
