David's query about the 2X2 diagram sounded to me like what used
to be called a "Johari Window," where axes were what was known to the
individual and not known; and what was known to the observer and not
known. The diagram was used to indicate how, if you could find out about
how you came across to others, expanding your own self-knowledge, you
could access (and thus change) parts of your character, behavior, or
interpersonal style that were otherwise inaccessible (and thus
unchangeable). In this form, the diagram was used in NTL (National
Training Lab) circles and spread out to OD (organizational development).
It's widely reproduced in older OD texts.
