I agree. As a matter of fact, I recently completed an assigment for a
client who wanted me to "look into" knowledge management. As my client
wrote, "You know, that learning organization stuff."

The end product of my effort turned out to be an executive-level briefing
book. In it, I took care to comment on the relationship between knowledge
management and the learning organization. Although I agree that knowledge
management and the learning organization are "close kin," they are not the
same thing. The way I drew this distinction in the briefing book I
prepared was to say that knowledge management is all about being able to
deploy relevant, valid knowledge in pursuit of the organization's aims and
that the learning organization is all about providing a place where the
deployment of knowledge can and does happen.
