I found Ben's thoughts on this subject very timely and thought provoking.
How often do we inadvertently squash the creativity, enthusiasm,
intelligence, and productivity of our knowledge workers by continuing to
manage them as if they were grinding widgets for a living? I wish it were
not so, but I have to concur that our business environments are not a very
healthy place for fostering the best in us.
