Your message got me thinking about how I begin relationships, and how I
build my trust in another person. Early in a relationship, I put so
little of myself at risk that even "benefit of the doubt" does not seem to
apply. Through early interactions, I listen for clues about how the
person approaches relationship, and I make some (mostly unconscious)
decisions about trust. Only when I feel safe will I start to risk. As I
write this, it occurs to me that I might benefit by risking more earlier.

Regards,
Dale
