I think Lay meant that, in his mind, ethical managers are those who care
about the _people_ they manage. Knowing the name of the employees' spouses
or significant others may come automatically from holiday parties and such.
Having learned enough about the employee to know the names of their
children may imply the manager has also learned about them as a _person_,
knowing their dreams, their strengths, their weaknesses.
