I am relatively new to learning-org. My position is director,
National Extension Leadership Development program, headquartered at
Colorado State University, Ft. Collins. Thus, I am always looking for
cutting edge leadership material. I am especially interested in the
ethics of leadership, and found the discussions on trust of interest. In
addition I am an ENTJ (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) and a visionary, so I
always want to leap ahead, over what is on the horizon to the really good
stuff that could put an organization out in front.
The book I recommend is a very short paperback, A PEACOCK IN THE
LAND OF PENGUINS: A TALE OF DIVERSITY AND DISCOVERY, by Barbara Hateley
and Warren H. Schmidt, Berrett Koehler Publishers, San Francisco, 1995.
It is a "tale of the perils and possibilities of being different in a
world that values comfort, safety, and the predictability of conformity."
I have felt like a penguin most of my working life. In many ways it
speaks to the discussions of caring about bosses, personal priorities, and
systems.
