I have a hard time relating to this whole thread but I have also been
following it.
With regard to your Robinson Caruso (RC) story, I'll let my thoughts
meander into this sea....
Suppose RC was alone on the island, was hungry and tried to catch fish
with his hands. He kept trying until finally his eye/hand coordination,
allowing for thr refraction of light in the water developed to the point
where he was now able to catch them bare-handed. But he only could catch
a few a day this way, so he thought and thought and sharpened a stick, and
tied it to a vine and harpooned the fish. This way he caught enough
easily and quickly to free up his time to develop other skills - such as
better hut building.
My point is that 1) You don't need to compare yourself to anyone but
yourself to develop competencies and 2) You can learn on your own.
