Tome Abeles asked about time and it's impact of people and profit.

The reports and factors you mention may or may not be connected. It
depends on management's understanding of what they have chosen to manage.

A few comments on a way to think abut them.

Product cycle times are important to the process improvement efforts as
well as planning production. The time in process and the consistency of
that time are good indicators of the how well a process works. One that is
irregular and long needs repair. A smooth low time in process indicates a
lower cost and lower frustration levels for workers.

Since less time in process can only be obtained by understandings he
process and making it work right it is also an indication of cost.
Improving time in process improves cost. Some try to do it with a club but
only perfection of the process endures and gives a feeling of satisfaction
to the worker.

The elapsed time in process time tie in to cost ties into all the profit
items such as return on assets and stock holder equity etc. It ties in
twice both because fewer assets are required with lower time in process
and because a process working right generates less waste of material and
peoples time.

Wasting less of peoples time causes better attitude and feelings about
work. Wasting less of our peoples time engenders feelings of better self
worth.

The value of feeling better about self and feeling achievement must tie to
personal time and the future in the way we choose to face it.

This is not an academic response but a simple shop response based on the
truths I have found in trying to reduce time in process and make processes
work better.
