Hi:
Lynette has mentioned something that a group of us here in Reykjavik have
begun discussing. About eight of us who work in different and varied
organizations get together about once a month to discuss issues that we
encounter at work and we then try to look at these with views from the
outside. We had decided that at our next meeting we would look at
"empowerment" and what it meant for women and for men in Iceland. There
is no Icelandic word for empowerment and for those of you who don4t know
Iceland foreign professional words are never imported directly into the
language, unlike much of Danish, Swedish and Norwegian. So we are both
looking at the issue and trying to see if there is any way to describe it
in Icelandic.
Sometime last year, I think in May or June, there was a discussion about
empowerment in some of the LO messages. I have looked over those messages
in the archive and can't find the one I was looking for which was
something very simple, like
empowerment = control x authority x ?
but I can't remember the rest ......
can anyone help out, or does anyone have any "definitions" to offer us.
Many thanks
Allyson
