Hi Steve,
If you really want to get to the root source of what prevents cooperation,
from my perspective, you would look at "insecurities" and "ego vanity".
There is new psychology to deal with this without dwelling on the past.
Activating heart intelligence is very efficient. It can be done in a
moment, with some practice.
In the physiological domain, the Autonomic Nervous System is very clear
(and we are hard wired to make it so). It is either sends "coherent" or
incoherent signals to the brain. See the American Journal of Cardiology
study "The Effects of Emotions on Short-Term Power Spectrum Analysis of
Heart Rate Variability"
http://www.heartmath.org/ResearchPapers/AJC1195/AJC1195.html
We have more control of this than we know.
I heard that Peter Jennings reported, about 6 months ago, that the
understanding of Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is one of those things in
Medicine that will change the face of medicine itself (like Penicillin or
Diagnostics).
To simplify, the perception of a stressfull situation will indeed block
clear thinking, caring communication, foster judgement and ultimately will
diminish cooperation. Remember, the management of any of this, is all a
ratio game. The actualization of "sincerity" is very powerful for
cooperation.
Take care,
Dan
