Every once in a while I'll send an email to announce updates to my
website. But this is NOT one of those notes. This time I'm writing to ask
for your help. I sure hope you'll take a few minutes to read on and
respond.
HERE'S THE SITUATION: My website (www.meaningatwork.com) includes plenty
of anecdotes, but I know that there are many more great stories out there.
So I'm conducting a new round of research to uncover these gems. I'm
searching for work units, divisions, or whole companies that fully engage
the hearts and minds of their employees -- in other words, meaningful
organizations. I hope to use some of these organizational stories in the
website, my other writings, and my presentations.
I NEED YOUR HELP! Perhaps you know of truly meaningful workplace. Maybe
it's where you work or where a friend works. Maybe you read an article or
heard mention of a fulfilling organization. Whatever the case, I hope
you'll take a minute to send me a quick email about it. You can provide as
much or as little information as you want. If you send just a sentence or
two, I may email you a few questions to fill in the details. And of
course, if I plan to use the story in the website or any other writings,
I'll be sure to get your full approval beforehand. (If you wouldn't mind a
phone conversation, please include your number and the best time for a
call.)
SPECIFICS ON WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR: What do I mean by a "meaningful
organization"? Generally, I'm looking for teams, or work units, or
functional areas, or divisions, or offices, or whole organizations where
people find deep fulfillment each and every working day. Specifically, I'm
in search of workplaces where people are passionate about their mission
... a spirit of innovation and personal development leads to nonstop
improvement ... informality and flexibility are implicit working
principles ... equality and a sense of ownership unite employees ... the
workplace is more like a community ... and individuals truly believe that
they fit in the organization and are making a difference. Do any of these
descriptions match your workplace or one you know about? If so, I sure
hope you'll get in touch with me.
YOUR HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED: I'm working hard to make this new round
of research as successful as the first. Thank you for reading this note
and giving thought to my request. I hope to hear from you!
FEEL FREE TO FORWARD: If you have some Internet friends who might have
stories to share, please send them this note. Thanks!
