Actually, I think that among the reasons why some relatively worthwhile
learning experiences wind up becoming "fads":

a. people generally want "quick fixes" and
b. some learning will require discomfort: moving from the safe and
comfortable to possible unsafe and uncomfortable is difficult and
certainly not always welcomed! Soooo--let's try something else.

I liken it to losing weight: exercise? diet? Can't I just take a pill?
All those "Lose four sizes in two weeks" signs aren't selling products to
people who have thought this whole "get in shape" thing through!
