With Bas I have my doubts about the distinction km 1st and km 2nd. I have
the impression that 1km st is more about data/information and km 2nd about
knowledge/wisdom. Furthermore km 1st is strongly driven by technological
determinism and km 2nd moer by social constructivism. I think we should
integrate both and look at them at a hierarchical way.

I do think we need ICT solutions to be able to share and distribute.

To define knowledge management I used the ICT term Information mapping as
a base. It contains:

Concept (what is it)
Strategic objectives (how does the organization wants it)
Structure (how is it composed)
Processes (how does it happen)
Procedures (how must it be used)
Distribution (how do we get it delivered to everyone)
Interpretation (how do we define in a way that everybody understands the same)

Although this offers a good handle it mingles strategic, tactic and
operational level.

I wrote an article on this topic that will be published in Holland in
Personeelsinformatie later this year. An English version will be available
at HRONLINE (www.hronline.com) in a month or so.

I would appreciate feedback on this. Writing an article helps me to get a
more clearer vision on a topic and I think it is a practical way as base
for discussion.
