Replying to LO 23209 and 23222
Dear LO`s
I didn't expect answer about this subject, because as Economist I
subscribed this List for the management and LO consultant subjects. But I
have another passion : the teaching. I have taught to young and adult
people, men and women about how to start a business, management, marketing
and team work.
Now, I am working in the Judiciary, in the Planning and Budget Office,
also as consultant to a development project of a Non Gubernamental
Organization. On sundays, I teach to adolescents at the Dominical School
in my Church.
Reading to Leo Minning and Harriet Robles, I see some common problems with
the adolescents. I recomend to read : "Taching to change lives" Howard
Hendricks. Edit. Unilit. 1988.
I want to share some tips that gives me results with adolescents :
- In the first class, I tried to memorize immediately their first name
and invite them to participate saying their names. I interest in them as
persons not as students who are allways inattentive.
- I try to know which are their main problems : don`t have father, or
they have separated, or they are in love and others, and talk about it.
- I try to know which are their main interests : music, sex, druggs,
love, violence, lack of work, and talk about it.
- We are two teachers in the classroom. We help each other with the same
objective.
- Sometimes, the adolescentes do the class
Leo, your "punishment" to investigate is good. It works with some, but is
possible that changing the subject, work with others.
