Rick
Perhaps, I was being too economical with the spaces between the words.
Starting with the assumption that systems have a purpose, I view objective
and purpose as the same. I view an organisation as mutiple different
systems: a system for making money, a system for providing employment, a
system for providing a social life outside the home, a system for
providing a salary cheque that pays the mortgage, a system for creating
cultural heroes and heroines, etc.
In my posting, I was focusing on just one of those options. On
reflection, my second comment about whose culture is a little misplaced.
However, it would be an interesting piece of research to list, say 20
systems views, and ask people to prioritise them from a personal aspect
(might be a bit difficult getting people to focus on how they see an
organisation as opposed to how they are told to see an organisation).
Then analysis the results by nationality, age, gender, etc. Does anybody
know if this has been done?
