Rick...

I'm enjoying the conversation between you and Mark. It's quite an
insightful one. Just thought I'd contribute a snippet. It seems to me
that we can attempt to capture learning (as a knowledge object) in those
moments when "tacit" is made "explicit." As you know, this sometimes
occurs in the learning cycle, when a person (who is unconsciously
competent in a particular skill or know-how) has to rediscover (or make
conscious) the source of their mastery in order to pass it along (teach)
to another. This often happens when a skilled person has to solve a
problem, for instance.

Annie Brookings little book on knowledge management (Corporate Memory)
shares some anecdotes about this process.
