I very much enjoy what I've read from each of the contributors on this
thread. I have only a very small thought to share...and it's about the
SETI@home screen saver I have on my computers. For the very few of you
who may not know, "SETI@home is a scientific experiment that harnesses the
power of hundreds of thousands of Internet-connected computers in the
Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). You can participate by
running a free program that downloads and analyzes radio telescope data.
There's a small but captivating possibility that your computer will detect
the faint murmur of a civilization beyond Earth. " (You'll find more at
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/)
I glance at the "patterns" on this screen saver each day, and wonder about
the search for some rhythmic pattern that may someday signal
extraterrestrial Intelligence. Rhythm in communication is integral to all
life forms, it seems...even those we haven't been introduced to yet.
regards,
Doc
