Replying to LO24384 --
How odd that after deleting literally hundreds of unread LO messages in
the past month I should glance at this one...
I find the current threads boring, repetitive, boring, repetitive, and
boring. Additionally, they are boring and repetitive. I particularly
dislike messages which drone on for two paragraphs without offering one
clue about where they are going or giving me any hope that reading them is
worth the time. And I DO feel as if we are being raided by mindless
students who confuse research and begging - and those boors are boring
too.
I do not often initiate threads, preferring instead to respond to
provocative statements imbedded in messages. But lately there have been
few provocations I consider worth my time or effort.
So, because I don't like to complain without providing at least one
solution to the problem at hand, I suggest users of this list spend at
least a little time sharing their likes and dislikes about the forum,
suggesting things that would interest them, and establishing a positive
feedback loop to prevent the kind of stagnation we repeatedly see on these
pages. Things like:
Gee, I wish writers would spend just a little more time condensing
thoughts.
Boy, it would be great if we began each long posting with one or two
eventual conclusions and we reserved plot development for mystery novels.
Wouldn't it be great if the first week of May was designated as "No
Mention of Entropy Production Week."
Wow, I love (short) personal stories of discovery.
God, I hate long quotes from obscure philosophers.
Bring back funny stories, life is too short to share boring information.
