Greetings John,
Thank you for your comment.
Yes, point a finger to another and three point to the self.
It is interesting how various people form different perceptions on one and
the same thing.
Although I use myself as an example, it is soon perceived that I cite
myself. I use myself as an example trying to shift beyond the idea that
communication on learning has to be "academical", i.e. isolated and
purified from the other walks of life. I use myself because I know myself
better than I know anybody else, even though I still know far too little
about myself. I use myself because I have learned to endure the "picking"
(pecking?) of myself. I know from teaching experiences that very few
students are willing to lay themselves bare as examples.
I refer to URLs on topics to which I have contributed as a help to fellow
learners. Another possibility is to mail and redistribute them regularly.
A third possibility is to say nothing about them so as to let learners
wonder where in this extraordinary list they have landed. A fourth
possibility is to stop my inputs to the LO-dialogue so that the experts
can begin disseminating them for better or worse. Whatever the
possibilities, I have to live with my mission -- midwifery for authentic
learning.
I have once described a model on this list, called the Digestor, to help
fellow learners how to understand how intimidation works and thus how to
overcome intimidation. The reaction of fellow learners were as expected.
The very model intimidated most of them. The reactions of most to the
model served as examples to the model. Curiously enough, no one else
offered another model or theory to help fellow learners how to overcome
intimidation.
Intimidation is actual. Intimidation is immense. Intimidation is used to
force people against their will to become or not to become. Intimidation
happens in all organisational facets. The strategies of intimidation are
legio. It can range from a seemingly innocent sentence to massive physical
and spiritual torture. It is very easy to perceive my long contributions
as intimidation.
The cessation of learning as a result of intimidation is vast. The victims
of intimidation are uncountably many. Intimidation inhibits the emergence
of organisations into LOs. Is it not curious and significant that we have
such little LO-dialogue on intimidation?
John, what is your thinking on intimidation?
With care and best wishes
