(about the special boy in the camp)

Dear Winfried Deijmann,

there are certainly many points in your learning history, I would like to
share one connected to a summary of Demings System of Profound Knowledge I
gave last week in a circle of people we call 'Lernclub' within our
company.

It is about common and special causes of deviation. The usual behaviour,
we agreed, was to look for special causes where common causes are the
problem - socalled blaming. Then we tried to find cases where the opposite
happens - look for common causes where special causes are the problem -
and found it difficult. We talked about the role of management, but
management doesn't fit, because management is the special cause for common
causes. We found here the reason why Deming insisted so much on the
responibility of management.

What makes your case special to me is that you managed a real system
without breaking the wholeness with the vision of an ideal system. Often
management perceives itself as part of the good vision struggling under
the influence of bad current reality. In fact, we are all part of current
reality. You have shared an encouraging story that this insight - how
hurting it may be to be born - is not hurting anymore at all after being
born.

Thank you.

Liebe Gruesse,

Winfried Dressler
