Designing the New Venture:
Enabling the Brave New World of eBusiness, Alliances, Mergers and
Organizations of the Future

March 11-14, 2001
SAN ANTONIO, Texas

Call for Presenters

The Association for the Management of Organization Design (AMOD) annual
conference theme for 2001 will explore the tools, strategies and
experiences of designing the "new venture". The new venture is being
driven by a new set of forces that are redefining how we design
organizations. This conference will significantly increase participant's
ability to identify the issues, design choices, and approaches to support
new venture situations. New ventures in this conference include

* ebusiness startups
* venture capital and corporate funded startups
* strategic alliance agreements
* mergers and acquisitions
* customer partnerships
* organizational arrangements that require a fundamental change in the
concept of operation.

The 2001 AMOD Conference explores how organizations can be designed to
support rapid growth and dynamic changes in their markets and products.

The conference will include:
* Pre- and post-conference workshops.
* Keynote and luncheon speakers
* Presentations and case studies that provide real world examples of the
application of design principles and tools associated with the new ventures
* "Open space" type discussions where participants can explore the issues
that are of greatest interest and importance to them.
* Evening receptions designed for socializing and networking

Key Topics
We invite you to submit a proposal in one or more of the topics below.
1. Managing Growth: How new ventures manage explosive growth through
organization design.
2. Designing for Sustainability: How to keep the emerging company from
becoming a victim of their own success.
3. eBusiness and Technology: How ebusiness arrangements are changing
organizations forever..."This Isn't Your Father's Company."
4. Rapid Design for Rapid Evolution: How to accelerate design in a rapidly
changing organization.

new ventures while serving established markets.
7. Strategy and Structure Alignment: Aligning strategy, structure and systems
in boundaryless value chain relationships.

organizations driven by a merger or acquisition.

Submission Information
Proposals must be received by July 30, 2000. Speakers will be selected no
later than September 7. We welcome multiple proposal submissions. Please
keep the proposal to two pages or less if possible. See the template
attached to this document.

Selections will be based on the following criteria:

* Attraction: Extent to which the proposal is likely to attract participants
to the session, workshop, or presentation.
* Theme Relevance: Extent to which the proposal relates to the theme and
outcomes of the conference.
* Learning Clarity: Extent to which cases and real-life examples clearly
illustrate "lessons learned" such as sound design principles and approaches.
Case studies can be either successes or failures as long as repeatable
"lessons learned" are clear.
* Practicality: Extent to which participants are likely to get practical
concepts, principles and practices that can be used in the workplace.

Frequently Asked Proposal Questions
Q: I'd like to submit a proposal for both a presentation and a
post-conference workshop. Is that allowed?
A: We welcome multiple proposals... so the answer is yes.

Q: About how many people do you expect at the conference?
A: Conference attendance varies so it's difficult to predict. We're expect
anywhere from 60 to 150 if past conferences are any indication.

Q: How much information do you need on the abstract to make a decision on my
proposal?
A: See the attached template. We're looking for an overview description,
outcomes, and an outline or approach description.

Q: What if I want to submit a proposal on a topic that is different from the
key topics? Will it lose points?
A: While we are looking for topics related to the conference themes, we
welcome any and all proposals.

Q: How are presenters compensated for their efforts?
A: We normally waive the conference fee for presenters. Keynote presenters
and workshop sponsor fees are negotiated.

Q: I see the conference is to be held in San Antonio. In what hotel? Will
it be in a convenient location?
A: We are currently negotiating with a hotel on the famous San Antonio
Riverwalk, with full access to shops, entertainment and all other San Antonio
attractions. As soon as we have that information, we will make it available
to you.
