Julia,
The single biggest thing I've seen is for the person's manager to meet
with the person in advance to talk about the course and what the person
should look for. Then, after the course, it really helps if the manager
meets with the person again multiple times to ask about the course and to
talk about ways to apply the material in the workplace.
