Dear Winfried,
>Norn comes from Norne, I think they are an ancient greek mythological
>group of female helpers of humans, but again, I am not sure.
The Norns actually belong to the Norse mythical cosmology. They were the
three daughters of Era, the Earth Goddess. They spin the world's web, the
rope of destiny which was once anchored to the World Ash-tree, destroyed
by Woman's actions when he pulled off a branch to use as his staff.
At least, that is the version as told in Wagner's Ring cycle (see
especially the prelude to Gotterdammerung).
Best wishes,
Richard.
