I'm wondering if you might be interested in the Learning Logs Bob
Williams and I put together at
http://facilitatedsystems.com/llogs.html
You can find a pointer there to a book that goes into them a bit more
deeply. That book has been used as a university level text in action
research, as I understand it; it covers more than just the learning logs.
(Disclaimer: neither Bob nor I get any compensation for the sale of the
book. All the authors gave up royalties, at least for the first edition,
in the interests of spreading the word on action research.)
You might find that Art's learning history format has a longer time
horizon than our learning logs, and so they might complement each other
nicely in an academic setting. I've used pieces of them as evaluation
tools at the end of workshops, I think Bob has used them as evaluation
tools with his clients, and I believe they've been used as academic course
evaluation tools, among other uses.

Best wishes, and let us know if you try them out; we'd be interested in
what you learn about them.

PS: You might find the monograph "Making Sense," by Fred Kofman and John
Weeks, of interest, too. I found it quite mind-bending, interesting, and
enlightening. It's available from SoL; see
http://www.sol-ne.org/res/wp/pubs.html.
[Host's Note: Thanks, Bill, for this reference. The monograph is no longer
available from SoL. Bill, would you be willing to summarize the content
for us here? ..Rick]
