I will take the step of advancing your statement one further step...that
some people don't want to learn and find that imposed structures that
advocate learning as an assumption or value are found to produce far more
resistance than failing to learn. They want to, as you said, be left
alone to do the job that they were "told" to do and go from work to the
rest of their lives.

While it is necessary that orgs learn and they do learn whether we
structure it or not, a continuum of what we call learning and what we
might not call learning has to be applied to the structure such that more
resistance is not created in the process of "forced learning." In some
cases, people vote in the only way they know how, with their feet.

PS As to foodservice, the employment environment is much more complex than
on the outside might appear!
